My First "F" as a Southern Belle

I just had a conversation with my Memaw and she is , "Mortified that her granddaughter born and raised in the South doesn't know how to make biscuits or cornbread".

I pride myself on being a Southern Belle (I was in a Debutante Ball for heaven's sake), but apparently my future rests on these two things. My mom and Memaw are wondering how they failed me and my future spouse and children because I can't pass on such a heritage.

Tonight I'm tackling cornbread. I think there's still time for me to gain my crown and get a shiny Southern Belle "A".

This is so funny! I don't know how to cook a lick, and I know I'm a disgrace to my mother and grandmothers! Post the recipe if it turns out to be great and not a family secret! Enjoying the pictures and your blog!

This is how I make cornbread.

Buy Jiffy Cornbread mix in the box (I only buy Jiffy if it is on sale, most of the time I use the Wal-Mart or Kroger brand) Add about 1/4 sugar to the batter when you mix it up and then cook according to the package directions.

Jon was raised on homeade from scratch and he always tells me that he LOVES mine!!!

Thanks ladies for your encouragement. I'll post the recipe as soon as I get it. I had to miss the lesson to go help a friend with her baby:)

Ok, Jason LOVES cornbread and I NEVER make it... why you ask? a. I hate it, b I dont know how to make it...

BUT, the other night, I had cornmeal in the cabinet. AND buttermilk... what are the chances...

so, I do cornmeal, little bit of sugar, milk and egg, cast iron skillet... THEN for the grand finale, I mixed in a can of rotel and shredded cheddar to make mexican cornbread.

seriously, i think he shed tears.

And for biscuits, I discovered the Loveless cafe biscuit mix. omg. Add buttermilk and pop in the oven. (After you roll the dough and cut them out)
But, no one does it better than loveless.

Now, when your MOM makes that amazing BREAD-(that we ate 3 loaves of at 1 sitting) ship me some.
